CES 2020 Day 1
OnePlus Concept One It’s Day 1 for OnePlus at the CES, after being the company that came out to be the winner for past several years beating out the flagship smartphones of several other big and strong companies who have been in the game for decades. So being OnePlus’s first CES, everyone was intrigued to know what could they come up with. And possibly no one was disappointed to see their concept phone with an invisible set of cameras supported by the electrochromic glass. It is still just a concept and the commercial availability hasn’t been announced, but the fact that OnePlus is not just sticking to the conventional business and has started innovating in such a manner is no doubt a step in the right direction.
Sony
Reveals PS5 logo, next-gen console
Gaming is a big deal, over the past decade it has been proven that it isn’t just something that kids do or adults engage in for just the recreational release. People invest a lot of time and money in it and one of the biggest influencers in gaming is Sony, more than their game developing studio, their console each generation defines a major chunk of gaming for a generation. Even their contender Xbox has publically accepted that their current generation of the console (Xbox One) is weaker than Sony’s PS4. And now after a gap of 7 years, Sony has announced PS5 and revealed its logo, which honestly wasn’t much of a reveal, so to speak. We already know that the next-generation console will feature ultra Blu-ray drive, 3D audio sound, and ultra-fast SSDs. 2020 Holiday season the new PS5 will be dropping alongside Microsoft’s Xbox Series X.
Vision-S concept electronic car
Under a partnership with auto manufacturer Magna and filled with gear from companies like BlackBerry and Bosch, Sony has announced its Vision-S electronic car, as a concept of course. Although commercial production was not announced, the features such as the 33 sensors that will monitor both inside and outside of the car and “immersive” audio, along with with widescreen displays, a panoramic screen, and always-on connectivity were surprising and exciting enough coming from a brand like Sony.
Displays and TVs
Things are looking better and it keeps getting better with bigger and the best technology in our displays. Be it the Asus ROG Swift, a 24.5-inch gaming monitor with 1080p resolution and a whopping refresh rate of 360Hz or the two in monitors in Samsung’s Odyssey lineup which range from 49-27 inches screen size and support 240Hz refresh rate which makes a huge difference to those who are investing in superior gaming. TVs are bigger and more than elaborate, Samsung with its 8K TV with almost no bezels and the eloquent 48-inch OLED TV powered by the Picture Processor X1 Ultimate from Sony. And the innovative bug has travelled over the TV manufacturers too, as the concept design of LGs rollable TVs are going to be shipped out later in 2020, offering a 65-inch OLED screen at $60,000. With a press of a button the screen disappears into a rectangular box, but at what cost. Samsung too has gone the innovative route with its ‘auto-rotate’ 43-inch TV (Sero). The company has announced a TV that can easily switch from the landscape model to a portrait mode orientation, by rotating the display vertically. Sero is described as a TV designed for the mobile generation and further details about the pricing and features haven’t been revealed. Foldable Laptops While there were faster and sleeker laptops at the display, foldable laptops attracted more attention. Not just because of the cynical ‘why’ but also the curious ‘how’ made us wonder about these foldable laptops, that for now has been announced by Lenovo and Dell. Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Fold has been in the works for the last 4 years and was announced last year. The 13.3-inch OLED screen opens like a book more or less, which makes it seem like a foldable Tablet more than a laptop, but of course, it would be sporting superior hardware and there is a Bluetooth keyboard that can be attached to one of the sides when in a clamshell form to create a more traditional laptop experience.
